Inspections

Ofsted Logo

Our most recent Ofsted inspection took place in June 2016. We were inspected by Mr Mark Sims, HMI (National Languages Lead for Ofsted).

As a result of this inspection process, St. Michael's was rated as good in every area. This led to an overall grade of good for the school, within the background of a more challenging Ofsted inspection model.

Our Pre-School was also inspected and included in the overall judgement. The inspection found that in the Early Years Foundation Stage children make good progress and achieve well. Leaders were praised for ensuring that the large majority of pupils, including the high proportion of most-able pupils, have made rapid progress and have done well in reading, writing and mathematics by the end of Year 6, and that pupils, including the most able, are well prepared for the next phase in their education when they move on to secondary school.

The Inspector commented that teachers plan work that is challenging for pupils. Consequently, outcomes, especially for most-able pupils, are very high. Work is also set appropriately for the very small number who have special educational needs and/or disabilities.

In the report, it states that pupils are encouraged to show respect for each other. One comment to the Inspector, reflecting the views of other parents, commended the way that older pupils look after the welfare of younger ones around school and in the mixed-aged classes.

Ofsted recommended that the school needs to ensure that the Governors make sure that they are well informed about progress of pupils at the school and how Pupil Premium funding is spent, as well making sure that teachers are consistent in checking that additional marking challenges are completed.
