Event - Chinese New Year Celebrations

10 February 2015

The Chinese New Year certainly arrived early at St. Michael's with a bang this week!

We were extremely 'lucky' to welcome martial arts teacher and expert, Glenn Parry, and his assistants to help the children learn more about the traditional festival.

Our day started watching a performance of a lion dance, the faces on all of the children and adults clearly demonstrated the enjoyment of this colourful and coordinated interpretation.

Throughout the day, all of our pupils, including our youngest pre-school children, had the opportunity to learn 'moves' associated with the dance, try them out in the 'lion' costumes and re-create the rhythmic music with a Chinese drum and cymbals to accompany the dance.

Each class also took part in craft workshops with their class teachers and attempted eating noodles with chopsticks, we saw some interesting techniques! We loved tasting the different flavours.
