Event - Pond Dipping

25 and 26 May 2017

On Thursday 25th and 26th May, Nigel Hand (a local ecolgist) came into school to pond dip with all of the children.

The pond is just over a year old and Nigel was really pleased with the way it has established itself.

Over the two day period, the children spent time in small groups learning how to pond dip safely, how to use a key to identify animals and plants and learnt about the life cycles of various insects. Our pre-school children and our toddler group (Startots) also joined in the fun.

We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day and it proved to be a wonderful learning experience for all those involved.

Class 4 pond dipping.
The children had to look careful to identify the insects.

Nigel taught the children about grass snakes.
The children successfully identified three different species of newts.

What have we found now?
